Have a dedicated person to coordinate everything” This is what Quentin Van Buylaere (Sustainability Director at Multipharma) advised during our webinar yesterday. During this open and authentic exchange, we discussed the challenges and initiatives of Multipharma and Vpharma, which manage 243 and 57 pharmacies respectively, and we explored how they ensure all their employees integrate the initiative. 5 elements to integrate sustainability into the DNA of the company: 👔 Management commitment: Crucial support to integrate economic, environmental, and social impacts into every decision. 📊 Carbon footprint assessment: Essential to identify relevant action levers and significantly reduce emissions. ✅ Implementation of concrete ESG initiatives: Act quickly to fulfill your commitments. 👥 Employee engagement: Discuss, train, and designate ambassadors to create a bottom-up movement. 🤝 Specific coordination and monitoring: Assign a dedicated person to implement and follow up on actions. Our speakers shared that ESG initiatives within their organisations are not only well-received but also generate a lot of interest and enthusiasm from the staff. Are solar panel good enough? Yes, and… they’re not the only solution. Julien Jirikoff collaborated with us on an article to discover more fossil fuel alternatives he offers with WISE. Energy Inc.. He showed that, from installation to optimisation, something can be done to reduce a company's carbon footprint. For example, what are the alternatives to solar panels? 🍃 Wind turbines - they produce energy more consistently than solar panels, which might not be optimal for areas with little sun exposure (aka Belgium) ♻️ Biomethane - it’s especially useful for businesses and industries that generate organic waste 🔥 Geothermal heat pumps - it’s interesting for companies located where underground temperatures are stable. But the good thing is that your scope of action doesn't end with installation. More can be done by storing heat and electricity and implementing an energy optimisation software like WISE. Brain 🧠. 🎉 We've calculated the carbon footprint of Couleur Café! 🎉 Couleur Café is a festival in Brussels that brings together a diverse mix of hip-hop, soul, funk, reggae, dub, dance, and afro artists, along with dozens of DJs across 9 stages. Their primary mission? Creating a 3-day party where everyone feels welcome. However, festivals have an impact, and they know it. That’s why Couleur Café has embarked on a journey to reduce its ecological footprint, with decarbonization as a key pillar of this strategy. 🌱 This year, in collaboration with Tapio’s carbon expert Colin Royer, Couleur Café produced its first carbon report.
