📣 Early July, our colleagues Abdelfattah Mahmoud and Jérôme Bodart attended the 7th International Conference on Smart Materials and Spectroscopy (SMS’2024). 🔋 Abdelfattah captivated the audience with his keynote on advancing battery recycling (#CISTEMEEC project, PNRR). He presented innovative approaches, including repurposing solar panels for anode materials and direct battery recycling to regenerate materials, paving the way for sustainable energy solutions. 🔬 Jérôme introduced the SOLIDBATTERY project (Service public de Wallonie - Win2Wal). His presentation, "Towards 3D-printed All-Solid-State Batteries" highlighted the optimization of anode, cathode, and electrolyte materials through rheological advancements. 👨🎓 Both of them were also invited to the University of Sfax to conduct a comprehensive battery course, focusing on Zinc-ion batteries and cathode/anode active materials synthesis. 📃 If you're a stakeholder interested in collaborating or learning more about our initiatives, don't hesitate to reach out! 💡 #SmartMaterials #Sustainability #BatteryInnovation #Recycling #Batteries #AllSolidStateBatteries University of Liège / ULiège - RISE Rudi Cloots / Boschini Frederic / Pierre COLSON

Chemists developing green materials and processes for high-added value applications (energy, environment, health)
About us
GREEnMat is a research laboratory specializing in the development and characterization of functional materials (mainly inorganic) in the form of powders, bulk materials or coatings for applications related to energy, environment, health or protective coatings. In most projects, we pay special attention to the control of microstructure, porosity and interfaces to optimize the material properties. While maintaining a strong expertise in structural ceramics (stabilization of suspensions, shaping and densification), we are mainly active in the field of functional materials proving higher added value. Current research projects notably focus on the development of (new) materials with specific properties and their integration into applications in the fields of energy - through technologies for its production (photovoltaics), storage (Li-, Na-, K-, Zn-ion batteries) or energy consumption management (electrochromic glazing) - or health (materials for/by 3D printing in the biomedical sector). Across all research projects, the development of materials and synthesis processes with a low ecological footprint (less energy-consuming, aqueous phase, etc.) is also a priority for the GREEnMat laboratory. Recycling aspects are also central to our research activities. In order to meet our objectives, we rely on a wide panel of modern synthesis (spray-dryers, hydro/solvothermal reactors,...), manufacturing (multi-material 3D printing, spray deposition) and characterization tools. We are proud to put our expertise and equipment to use in collaborative projects of all kinds, from pioneering research in academic networks to innovative applied research in academia-industry consortia. We also carry our contract research for industrial partners in our fields of expertise.

🤝🔋🤝 Last week, we had the pleasure of welcoming the partners of the RESTINA (M-ERA.NET) and MOSiLIB (FFG Austrian Research Promotion Agency) projects to the GREEnMat (ULiege) - University of Liège for scientific review and discussion meetings. GREEnMat is proud to be a partner in these two projects, both of which are brilliantly coordinated by AIT under the leadership of Damian Cupid and Albina Glibo. 🗓👨🔬 👩🔬📝 Day 1 (July 1,2024) was dedicated to RESTINA project, which deals with REcovered Silicon/TIN Sulphide Nanocomposite Anode Materials for Generation 3b Lithium Ion Batteries. In this project, GREEnMat is mainly in charge of the preparation and characterization of the Si/SnS2/C by solvothermal method at lab and semi-pilot scales using recycled silicon (with a high purity 99.9%) from end-of-life solar cells. In addition, the reaction mechanism is also studied in depth using various characterizations (Operando/In-Situ). Day 2 (July 2, 2024) was devoted to the MOSiLIB project, in which the synthesis and water-based processing of the Si/SnS2 electrodes are to be brought to semi-industrial level using pilot line equipment. Single and multi-layer pouch cells are to be manufactured using the Si/SnS2 composites as the anode in combination with LNMO cathode. GREEnMat is responsible for the synthesis and characterization of the Si/Sn2 prepared by spray drying method at pilot scale. Finally, we ended up with a tour of the GREEnMat lab facilities. ⚡🔝⚡ In addition to the scientific meetings, these two days were also an opportunity to share convivial moments, visit Liège and discover that the city of Liège has been active in the field of recycling ♻ since its very beginnings. #batteries #strongertogether #researchcollaboration AIT Austrian Institute of Technology - FRIMECO GmbH - Universität Wien - University of Ljubljana - AVL List GmbH University of Liège - ULiège - RISE Damian Cupid - Albina Glibo - Yuri Surace - Hans Flandorfer - Martin ARTNER - Akzhan B. - Mahmoud Reda - Jana Katharina Kupka - Klemen Zelič - Robert Triebl - Thangamalar Bhaskaran Rudi Cloots - Boschini Frederic - Abdelfattah Mahmoud - Lahcen Fkhar - Hamid Oubaha -Audrey Schrijnemakers - Pierre COLSON
