(Opening Roeselare town hall!) Major news: this Sunday, 30 June, Roeselare's new town hall will festively open its doors. Everyone will be able to admire the extensive renovation and expansion of the town hall, with a brand-new entrance on the Grote Markt immediately catching the eye. Other highlights are the imposing atrium with its glass roof and the beautiful, green inner garden that forms a new and freely accessible resting point in the middle of the city. In the course of the summer, the city services will move to their new workplace, and from September the services for all citizens will start in the town hall building as well. We are proud to share that our Heem cohousing project Qville was selected as a finalist in the first edition of the European Collective Housing Award. Qville is an innovative cohousing project born out of a unique restoration and reconversion of the former quarantine stables in Essen, Belgium. The site is classified as protected heritage. The 1.7 ha domain includes 45 BEN homes (with 1 to 4 bedrooms), 5 studios for people with disabilities, an inn with guest rooms, a swimming pond with covered terrace, an indoor pool, a community center, a shared park garden, a small museum and a coworking space. (One month to go!) It's official: on 30 June, Roeselare's new town hall will open its doors. Today the enormous construction site is still ongoing, but every day 150 professionals are working on the finishing touches to this sustainable project. From this summer, visitors will enter the town hall via the new atrium on the Grote Markt. The large, airy reception area is a real eye-catcher in our design that immediately links the new buildings with the historical part, which has also been fully restored. (We won!) Tonight the Renaat Braemprijs was awarded and we are more than proud to share that De Academie got to take home the public jury prize. De Academie is a cohousing project in Turnhout for which we collaborated with Heem⁠. The Renaat Braemprijs gives recognition to the unique combination of heritage renovation and new construction that makes this project so special. In addition, housing units of various sizes are combined and there is room for people with care needs. (News) Together with four other design teams, B was selected for the next round of the design competition for the new administrative centre in Sint-Oedenrode (NL). We will present our plans on 17 June. The municipality of Meierijstad will optimise and increase the sustainability of the administrative centre in Sint-Oedenrode. Due to a number of relocations and function changes over the years, there is currently a lot of vacancy within the building and certain rooms no longer meet current capacity needs. As a result, a refurbishment is necessary. The assignment involves a vision for the entire former Sint-Oedenrode town hall and a design for the future administrative centre in the front half of the building. The rear part of the administrative centre will be used for housing and care. This assignment requires both an urban planning vision and experience in new construction, renovation and interior design. Our multidisciplinary office is therefore the perfect candidate for the project, as our four office divisions can combine their different areas of expertise. The choice of who will be the architect will be jointly determined by people living near the administrative centre, residents of the municipality and socially involved organisations. Together with a council working group, users of the building and specialists, they will assess the five architects' applications.
