The project includes energy upgrades and consolidation of the structure, with a new extension contrasting the materiality and architectural form of the existing stone structure. The new structure stands out with its bright new cladding, while the old building remains a tangible relic from the past. The material difference between the two structures helps clarify the hierarchy and construction period, with the new larch wood cladding gradually blending in with the context. 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗙𝗲𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 ✅ Original (very) old structure maintained – no demolition and reconstruction. ✅ Use of bio-based materials throughout. ✅ Insulated wooden box within the existing shell. ✅ Wood construction for the new building with fiberwood insulation and wood facade. ✅ Efficient use of resources and materials, optimising the energy performance of the building. Unveiling “Shivalaya,” where architecture converses with the divine. Nestled in Nandurbar, this 1080 sq ft bungalow transcends its spatial limits, expressing the sacred ‘Shiva Lingam’ through its curvilinear form. Clad in mint stone, the facade reflects the purity and resilience associated with Lord Shiva, while the stone louvers provide a rhythmic interplay of light and shadow, crafting a serene ambience within. Every curve is intentional, contributing to the dialogue between the celestial and the earthly. In the tradition of Foster’s belief in ‘doing more with less,’ “Shivalaya” stands as an emblem of sustainability — its terraced gardens and integrated greenery invite nature into urban living spaces. Today´s project involves an architectural waterfall specially designed to be integrated into an amphitheatre zone. Although limitless shapes and water textures are flooding my mind right now, aiming for the best artistic integration, I know that the best solution will emerge after understanding all the limitations and technical challenges of the project. Old Sana’a: The Environment Friendly City Based on scientific principles of the environmental design, the buildings of the old city of Sana'a were built centuries ago to resist the effects of climate, thermal insulation, and also to ensure the durability and stability of the buildings. Moreover, the uniquely featured houses were designed to follow the movement of the sun and air to obtain good lighting and natural ventilation. Furthermore, the Yemeni architects, when constructing Sana’a buildings, adopted the vertical construction style with a height of 4-6 floors in a compact cubic shape.
