Utilizing 𝗘𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗖-β𝗛𝟱® 𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗹𝘀, which express a transcriptomic profile similar to that of mature, healthy human pancreatic beta cells, this research exposes an epigenetic mediated strategy to 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺 𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗱𝘂𝗹𝘁 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗹𝗶𝗻-𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 β-𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗹𝘀 by specifically addressing default suppression mediated by the EZH2 methyltransferase. Australians living with a form of early-stage non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) can access TAGRISSO® (osimertinib mesilate) on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) from 1 June 2024. TAGRISSO is now reimbursed for patients with early-stage epidermal growth factor receptor mutation (EGFRm) positive NSCLC as adjuvant therapy after surgical resection. Cancer Precursor Project – Characteristics of Premalignant Precursors, Part 3a (Dermatopathology) Our cancer precursor project is intended to better understand how cancer arises by compiling a regularly updated spreadsheet of all distinct human cancers (now 1,232) and their precursors (now 191). This data informed the production of the mRNA-4157 individualized neoantigen therapy. Adjuvant mRNA-4157 plus pembrolizumab prolonged recurrence-free survival versus pembrolizumab monotherapy in patients with resected high-risk melanoma and showed a manageable safety profile. Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand agree with the proposal to expand access to generic lenalidomide and pomalidomide. This decision will bring New Zealanders one step closer to the international standard of care and will enable New Zealand haematologists to practice in closer alignment with internationally recognised clinical treatment pathways. It is important to recognise that – despite this proposal – an urgent unmet need persists for myeloma patients, who have not seen a new mode of action funded in the last decade. Myeloma is a relapsing and remitting disease, meaning that access to several treatment options with different mechanisms of action is required to keep people living. Daratumumab represents a new mode of treatment, and both daratumumab and carfilzomib are clinically and cost-effective therapies that form part of the established standard of care internationally. Not having access to these medications means that New Zealanders are ineligible for some clinical trials. These modern medicines continue to await funding on Pharmac’s Options for Investment list and highlight a broader issue where New Zealanders have to wait for the patent life of medicines to expire before they are publicly funded. This is unacceptable for blood cancer patients whose survival is wholly reliant on access to innovative medicines and who cannot afford to wait. LBC will continue to lobby for improved decision-making and faster access to standard of care therapies. Genomic testing's growing importance impacts all medical fields, necessitating workforce development for integrating genomic medicine into healthcare. Education in #genomics at basic and advanced levels is critical, ideally through a mix of formal and informal programs. In Australia in particular, #genomiceducation is primarily led by clinicians and scientists lacking formal qualifications or experience, with few programs are tailored to audience needs, adequately funded, or evaluated for effectiveness. Addressing this means developing tools to better support the design, delivery, and bring about a better space in Australia for genomic programs. Celebrating progress today. Funding of galcanezumab (Emgality), erenumab (Aimovig) and atogepant (Qulipta) progressed one step closer this week in New Zealand, with Pharmac adding these migraine-specific medications to its Options for Investment list for the prevention of both episodic and chronic migraine. This is THE list we've been working so hard to have these medications placed on, and is a credit to not only our Migraine Foundation team, but the wider NZ migraine community who has supported our ongoing advocacy work. This is a successful milestone, yet there’s still so much more work needed to increase Pharmac’s budget so it can fund over 100 medications sitting on its Options for Investment list. Migraine disease is just one of so many life-limiting and disabling conditions affected by the woefully inadequate money allocated to Pharmac. One of the most devastating impacts of migraine disease is how it can affect people's ability to work. Only 16.6% of the 530 people who responded to our 2022 survey reported no work-related difficulties. A third said they worked full-time but were not working at their best. Just over 20% have had to choose flexible work and 14.1% said they couldn’t work because of migraine.
