On this #AIAppreciationDay, we acknowledge the benefits and risks of AI in our everyday life. To keep Australia safe and ensure the responsible use of AI, we’ve already adopted many AI standards, including the pioneering AI Management System standard. Last week, we hosted the ISO and IEC Consultation 2024. This event served as a valuable platform for discussing and collaborating on issues of international importance to Australia. The session included an update on #ISO and #IEC Governance, highlighting areas where Standards Australia can support our contributors. We also shared a summary of outcomes from recent technical management board meetings, including discussions on sustainability initiatives, and the importance of prioritising quality over quantity. A panel discussion followed, focusing on the benefits and risks associated with the use of #AI in standards development. The panel featured Karen Batt (Standards Australia), Mike Wood (Telstra), Jason McGee (Vice Chair IEC Technical Committe Explosive Atmospheres), Alison Scotland (Australian Sustainable Built Environment Council (ASBEC), and Jamal Waqar (Standards Australia). Over 150 participants joined the hybrid event, all of whom provided direct feedback on their key priorities for Australia to pursue at ISO and IEC. If you were unable to join us, we would still appreciate your input: https://lnkd.in/gFvKRSxq ISO - International Organization for Standardization IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) Clare McGrath

📣 The first of its kind worldwide standard, AS/NZS 5395, for PVC Pipes and Fittings is here! This standard ensures the production of safe, environmentally friendly, and high-quality PVC products. Despite the negative perception of plastic pipes, these pipes offer significant #sustainability benefits. They are 100% recyclable, have a lifespan of 100 years, and can be mechanically recycled 8 to 10 times without losing their technical properties. 🌱 Recognised by the Green Building Council of Australia, this standard aligns with our vision for a healthier, resilient, and circular built environment. In recognition of #NAIDOCWeek, we invited Kylie Captain to continue the conversation about the history and culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and how it all starts with education to understand and respect the past and empower younger generations. Following Kylie’s talk, our team had the pleasure of witnessing a couple of artistic performances. We kicked off with Riah, a soulful singer from the vibrant cultural tapestry of Southwest Sydney. The finale was a captivating dance performance by ‘Depicting the Dreamtime’. This young group of dancers, driven by a desire to effect positive change, used storytelling and movement to bring past stories to life in the present. At Standards Australia, we believe in celebrating the diverse cultures that enrich our team and the communities we serve. Let’s continue to learn, respect, share, and acknowledge the cultural heritage of our nation’s First Peoples. #NAIDOC2024 #BlakLoudProud If you’re interested in learning more about Kylie’s work or enquiring about ‘Depicting the Dreamtime’, you can find more information here: www.kyliecaptain.com.au Additionally, you can follow Riah on Instagram: https://lnkd.in/g-rNbtAv
