On Wednesday, the team at Opal Paper & Recycling Botany Mill had the pleasure of hosting members of The House Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Resources on a tour of the Mill. Led by Group General Manager Robert Carry, Mr Rob Mitchell MP, Chair and Members Ms Alison Byrnes MP and Ms Maria Vamvakinou MP had the opportunity to learn more about the process to produce 100% recycled paper, which is then manufactured by Opal into innovative and sustainable packaging solutions. The following day, Opal presented recommendations from our submission to The House Standing Committee as part of its inquiry into food and beverage manufacturing in Australia. Craig Dunn, GM Public Relations & Sustainability and David Jettner, GM Corporate Development & Strategic Projects presented on the role of R&D in developing fibre-based alternatives to single use plastics, and approaches to the circular economy, waste reduction and decarbonising. The Launceston City Football Club U9-12 Opal Academy teams enjoyed a trip down south for some friendlies against South Hobart. Hosted by South Hobart Football Club, the opportunity was a great way for all players to hit the pitch and play some excellent football.
