Last week, Codan was proud to team up with Hills Biodiversity to plant 500 native trees and plants at the Mt Barker Springs Water Reserve in the Adelaide Hills. Thirty years ago the Mt Barker Springs site, also known as Drovers’ Rest, was thriving with native grasses, forbs and sedges. Recently the land has been heavily grazed, reducing native vegetation and enabling exotic plants to thrive and the soil to degrade. A significant regeneration project is now underway at the site, led by the fantastic team at Hills Biodiversity, which is focused on restoring the native grassland and enhancing the local biodiversity of Mt Barker Springs. This activity aligns with Codan’s commitment to support initiatives that create a positive environmental impact on the wider community. Our employees had a fantastic time planting at the site and contributing to this worthwhile restoration project.🌱

As the Codan Health Improvement Program (CHIP) comes to a close for the year, we would like to acknowledge and celebrate the incredible participation from all of our employees globally. The program aims to have a positive impact on individuals mental and physical wellbeing by encouraging people to take part in short health checks, fitness and wellness activities onsite, and promote healthy eating. Fresh fruits were made available in all of our Zetron offices globally, while Head Office in Adelaide had a nutritionist onsite to conduct individual nutrition and stress counselling sessions; and the Domo Tactical Communications (DTC) office in Solent embraced a wellness day, featuring zinc taste testing and body composition testing. In the Ashburn office, a walking group formed despite the cold weather, and the walking group from last year's program continued at Head Office in Adelaide. There was a fantastic turn out at the Redmond office for the Women Empower Virtual 5K in April, raising funds for 911der Women, a nonprofit charity that offers mental health and wellness resources, training, career development and outreach to 911 responders. Thank you to everyone who participated in the program and contributed to its success. We look forward to facilitating the program next year.

✈️ Last month, Codan's Board travelled to our Zetron, Domo Tactical Communications (DTC) and Minelab Metal Detectors offices in the UK and Dubai. In addition to sharing business updates with each division, the trip was an excellent opportunity for the Board to engage with our people and gain valuable insights through product demonstrations and presentations.

This month, Codan was invited to participate as an industry partner in the University of South Australia STEM Girls Academy Creative Challenge. The Creative Challenge is an authentic learning experience in which schoolgirls from Years 9 and 12 are invited to solve a real-world problem posed by industry partners. The challenge is based around the problem-solving mindset Design Thinking. Design Thinking is a human-centered mindset in which people apply transdisciplinary skills to solve complex problems. It combines a series of steps which can guide you to think as a designer, sparking ideas that can lead to innovation. Through the STEM Girls Academy, students learn this methodology in a series of workshops, where they are guided and mentored by industry professionals to solve a problem presented to them. With Vanessa Nery, Technical Author at Codan | Domo Tactical Communications and Joey MacDougall, In-House Legal Counsel at Codan leading our challenge workshops, students were asked "How can we use IP Mesh networks to improve the lives of people living in remote and rural areas in Australia?". We were impressed by the solutions presented back by students which were creative and functional means of using IP Mesh in rural areas to improve networks for dispatching medical/fire/police aid, better access to educational resources for students, and creating remote solutions for agricultural needs. We are delighted to be involved in an initiative that aligns with Codan's commitment to encourage, promote and develop all students, regardless of gender, age, family status, culture, ethnicity, and religion to pursue a career in STEM. Thank you to UniSA and well done to all the students! 💡 📸 City West and Mawson Lakes campus workshops.
