Devils get creative with schedule release video, poke fun at rivals

The Devils “went to hilarious lengths” to announce the dates for some of their biggest games next season in a video that featured D Dougie Hamilton “showcasing his humor” with a guest appearance by F Curtis Lazar, according to Christian Arnold of the N.Y. POST. In the video Hamilton is in a classroom setting and goes by the name “Prof. Douglas D. Admin” and “uses a map to point to the states where games will be taking place.” The video turns its attention to the Empire State and the “Devils biggest rivals,” the Rangers. Hamilton “pokes fun at the fact” that the N.Y. Times had once named the best pizza in N.Y. “as a joint in Jersey City, New Jersey.” The Islanders also “caught heat.” In the video Hamilton said, “This little fish stick strip of land is Long Island, pronounced lawn-guy-land.” He added, “Their main exports are Billy Joel, accents and a super creative hockey team name.” Arnold wrote the “fake mustachioed NHL defenseman nearly broke character while reading the punchline in the video” (N.Y. POST, 7/2). SPORTSNET.ca noted a highlight of the video “was the professor pointing to Arizona, but then realizing the Coyotes no longer exist.” He then points to Utah and says, “I don't know anything about Utah.” Not every team did a video within the first two hours of the schedule release. There “were some laughs to be had for others.” The Penguins “did nice work poking fun at a schedule release for being a big deal at all” (SPORTSNET.ca, 7/2).
