National Sports Media Association inducts Buck, Kremer, Stark into HOF

National Sports Media Association
JOE BUCK, ANDREA KREMER and JAYSON STARK were formally inducted into the National Sports Media Association HOF last night at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, N.C.

TIM MCCARVER, who had a 40-year broadcasting career after a 21-year playing career, and author ROGER KAHN, who penned 19 books, were inducted posthumously.

The ceremony was part of the NSMA’s 64th awards weekend and national convention.

Buck, entering his third season of Monday Night Football on ESPN, is a four-time NSMA National Sportscaster of the Year, and he has called 24 World Series, six Super Bowls, five U. S. Open golf tournaments, 17 seasons of St. Louis Cardinals baseball and hundreds of other events.

Kremer, currently the chief correspondent for NFL Network, just finished 17 years at HBO’s “Real Sports with BRYANT GUMBEL.” She began her career at NFL Films’ first female producer and then was ESPN’s first female correspondent before moving to NBC for Sunday Night Football and the Olympics. She also was the first woman to become a full-time game analyst, appearing on Amazon Prime Video’s Thursday Night Football package.

Stark spent 20 years covering the Phillies and MLB at his hometown Philadelphia Inquirer before moving to ESPN in 2000 and The Athletic in 2018.

KEVIN HARLAN of CBS, Westwood One, and Turner was voted the 2023 National Sportscaster of the Year, his third victory. ESPN’s JEFF PASSAN was voted the 2023 National Sportswriter of the Year for the second time. Harlan and Passan attended the event, as did dozens of state winners as determined by member voting in December.

DAVID TEEL, of the Richmond Times-Dispatch, was named Virginia Sportswriter of the Year for the 15th time.

Joining Teel as double-digit winners were KEVIN TRESOLINI of The News Journal (Delaware Sportswriter, 14), ALLEN LESSELS of UNH Insider (New Hampshire Sportswriter, 13), RUSS LANGER of the Las Vegas Aviators and UNLV (Nevada Sportscaster, 12, plus once in New Mexico), and MIKE KEITH of the Titans (Tennessee Sportscaster, 12). A group of 59 first-time winners were selected in their respective states.

Also presented during the organization’s national convention:
