Names in the News

Former Madison Square Garden President BOB GUTKOWSKI via Palmetto Publishing has written a “behind the scenes memoir” with the help of veteran N.Y. sportswriter WALLACE MATTHEWS titled “GUT PUNCH” -- which is about Gutkowski’s time running MSG from 1985-94. The Rangers' last Stanley Cup title in 1994 and the Knicks losing in the NBA Finals that same year are an “integral part” of the memoir. There is “plenty of electric stuff” in the book about Heat President PAT RILEY, as well as former Rangers coach MIKE KEENAN and former GM NEIL SMITH. In addition, all the "intrigue surrounding Gutkowski’s landmark deal to bring the Yankees TV package to the MSG Network is detailed.” So "is the cable war” between Gutkowski’s MSG Network and Cablevision founder CHARLES DOLAN. Gutkowski’s relationship with former Yankees owner GEORGE STEINBRENNER, and how it “played a role in creating YES Network, is also explored” (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 6/29).
