Athletes Unlimited has brought on KIM NG as a senior advisor ahead of the launch of the Athletes Unlimited Softball League, the planned team softball league that will debut next year with at least 18 games broadcast across ESPN networks. AU co-founder and CEO JON PATRICOF said the organization’s leadership, including AU SVP and Dir of Softball CHERI KEMPF, had first connected with Ng around AU’s initial launch in 2020, and they’ve been pursuing the former Marlins GM to fill a leadership position since they began planning for AUSL late last year.

“Kim is a well-known strategic thinker as well as having incredible experience on the operations side,” said Patricof. “[Ng] will really be leading the launch and operational planning around AUSL and everything we’re doing in softball.” He added that Ng has existing relationships with AUSL advisors JESSICA MENDOZA, CAT OSTERMAN and NATASHA WATLEY.

Ng, a former collegiate softball player, departed the Marlins in October 2023; she previously held exec roles with the Yankees, Dodgers and MLB. Her immediate priorities include finalizing roster construction plans and host cities for AUSL’s debut season in 2025, as well as hiring support staff for the new league, which will feature GMs for each of the four teams (all teams will be owned by the parent league). Ng was just in Wichita for the latest season of AUX, which wrapped up last week. Patricof said the latest edition of the short-format softball league saw sizable year-over-year increases in attendance (up 71%), merchandise sales (75%) and broadcast viewership on ESPN networks (131%) through the first two-thirds of the season.
