St. Pete delays vote for Rays new ballpark

St. Pete would contribute $287.5M toward the $1.3B ballpark construction costs, while the county would contribute $312.5MRays
The city of St. Petersburg “needs more time” before City Council members vote on a new ballpark for the Rays, according to Colleen Wright of the TAMPA BAY TIMES. St. Petersburg City spokeswoman Alizza Punzalan-Randle confirmed that a workshop and a second, final vote on the deal will “now take place a week later than scheduled.” A workshop for “continued discussion” of agreements for both the ballpark and the redevelopment is now scheduled for Tuesday, July 16 at 9am ET. A second and final vote on the development project and votes on the agreements themselves is set for Thursday, July 18. Punzalan-Randle said that the schedule change was made “in order to ensure that all documents related to the Historic Gas Plant Development are carefully reviewed and finalized.” Punzalan-Randle said, “City, County and Rays staff have worked diligently to complete the multiple agreements related to the development and stadium.” She added, “Moving the dates is necessary to provide a comprehensive set of agreements for the discussion and vote.” The process, originally forecast to be wrapped up in “early 2024," has been pushed back a few times due to ongoing negotiations between attorneys for the city, the Rays and Pinellas County (TAMPA BAY TIMES, 6/27).
