Franchises

Franchise Notes

In Baltimore, Jacob Meyer noted four fans at Camden Yards who protested to support Palestine during the Orioles-Guardians game last night were removed from the lower bowl for violating the club’s fan policy. In the second inning, the fans waved Palestinian flags, including one that read “Free Palestine,” behind home plate and “briefly chanted before being escorted out of the stands and removed from the stadium.” The Orioles’ fan guidelines permit homemade banners and signs, but the club reserves the right to remove ones that are “political” (BALTIMORE SUN, 6/26).

CUTTING TIES: In S.F., Aidin Vaziri reported the 49ers have “severed ties” with video game streamer Herschel “Guy” Beahm, known as Dr DisRespect, following his admission of inappropriate messaging with a minor in 2017. A 49ers spokesperson said that Dr DisRespect will “no longer collaborate with the team.” Beahm, a longtime 49ers fan with nearly 5 million YouTube subscribers, partnered with the team in 2022 and “appeared at several prominent events,” including the NFL Draft and a wild-card playoff game against the Seahawks in 2023 (S.F. CHRONICLE, 6/26).

COME ON BACK: In Seattle, Percy Allen noted the WNBA Indiana Fever (7-11) and G Caitlin Clark are back in Seattle for today’s 10pm ET matchup with the Seattle Storm (10-6), and “once again, the game is sold out” -- the third sellout in franchise history. The first time Clark came to town, the Storm set a franchise attendance record due in large part to the massive fan appeal. Following the Storm’s 85-83 win last month, coach Noelle Quinn had a message for the capacity crowd of 18,343 at Climate Pledge Arena. Quinn: “If that was your first Storm game, I hope you come back and see more of what these amazing women have to offer” (SEATTLE TIMES, 6/26).
