Canucks revoking season tickets from professional ticket brokers

The Canucks say they are "revoking season ticket accounts” from people they believe are “professional ticket brokers,” according to Steve Ewen of the Vancouver PROVINCE. After the team spent time "researching season ticket holder accounts” the team felt they had found people that “were reselling tickets too frequently, as well as people who had several accounts.” Some of those “had different addresses but a single billing address.” Ewen noted there is “no word from the team” about a “ticket reselling threshold or about how many tickets being sold to other parties leads to an account being questioned.” Canucks season ticket holders can resell their tickets through Ticketmaster. Canucks fan Peter Wortman -- who said that he has been a season-ticket holder “for 33 years” -- received an email on June 12 from the Canucks stating that his seats were not being renewed because “you have either resold 100 per cent of your tickets or forwarded them to known broker accounts.” Wortman is from Pemberton, B.C. and said that he cannot “make every game.” By his count, he “made it to 17 of the 41 home games” this season. Wortman admitted that he has “resold to ticket brokers,” but he maintained that he “resells mostly to family and friends,” and his goal is to “break even on his tickets every season.” Tom Mayenknecht -- host of “The Sports Market” on Sportsnet 650 -- said that the “issue for the Canucks comes down to ‘restricting brokers without using a sledgehammer on the average season ticket holder’” (Vancouver PROVINCE, 6/25).
