Utah Hockey Club partners with Olympic Oval for temporary practice facility

The Utah Hockey Club is “moving into” the Olympic Oval in Kearns and “making some adjustments to the facility” as the team works to build its permanent offices and practice facility in Sandy, according to Kevin Reynolds of the SALT LAKE TRIBUNE. The Olympic Oval was built for Salt Lake City to host the 2002 Olympic Games. It currently has two ice sheets and a speed skating oval. U.S. Speedskating still works out of the Kearns facility. Team owner Ryan Smith said that the team has “already begun remaking one of the Olympic-sized ice sheets into an NHL regulation rink for the team to practice on,” and he is “planning to build” NHL locker rooms and office space for the team’s decision makers along with new treatment areas. Smith Entertainment Group said that the project is expected to cost “several million dollars” (SALT LAKE TRIBUNE, 6/26).
