Genesis signs on as first Founding Partner of TGL

TGL
Genesis has signed on to be the “first Founding Partner” of the TGL -- the league founded by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, according to Erik Matuszewski of FORBES. The multiyear partnership positions Genesis as the “official automobile company” of TGL and “provides a different platform within professional golf to showcase how the both the company and new league are marrying design, technology and innovation.” While financial terms were not disclosed, TGL is expected to have a “handful of Founding Partner deals in the neighborhood of” $5-$8M annually for “category exclusivity.” Genesis and Woods “already have an existing relationship,” with Woods and his TGR Foundation as the host of the PGA Tour’s Genesis Invitational. Matuszewski reported that Genesis will be “featured prominently” in commercials on ESPN and ESPN+ when the league debuts in January 2025, and they will also be “involved in on-site activations at the SoFi Center” and have “in-venue LED signage, with a sponsorship presence not unlike that seen in NBA and NHL arenas” (FORBES, 6/25).

GETTING IN ON THE ACTION: GEEKWIRE's Taylor Soper noted that Ackerley Sports Group -- a “sports-focused arm” of Seattle-based investment firm Ackerley Partners -- is “among the backers revealed this week” of TMRW Sports, who is behind TGL. Co-founder Ted Ackerley said that he is “bullish about the format of TGL and its primetime spot on ESPN,” and “hopes Seattle will get its own TGL team in the future.” Ackerley and his brother, Christopher, are part-owners of the Kraken (GEEKWIRE, 6/25).
