Audience Analysis: Soccer stays hot on Fox; Scheffler win boosts Travelers

UEFA Euros are averaging 1.13 million viewers across Fox and FS1 after 23 matchesDan Mullan/Getty Images

The UEFA Euros are averaging 1.13 million viewers across Fox and FS1 after 23 matches, up 32% from the same period in 2021 on ABC/ESPN/ESPN2 (856,000 viewers for 28 matches). Fox’s 1.88 million viewers for Belgium-Romania on Saturday afternoon was the best Euros group stage match on English-language TV since Spain-Italy drew 2.11 million on ESPN in 2012.

Channel/scheduling changes for this year’s Copa America have benefitted Fox Sports’ early audience numbers. The first six matches across Fox and FS1 have averaged 1.26 million viewers, up 453% from the same point for the Copa America Centenario in 2016 (just 227,000 viewers across Fox, FS1 and FS2). The first U.S. match this year aired on Fox, vs. airing on FS1 in 2016. There also has not been an FS2 game yet for the tourney.

Fox averaged 2.35 million viewers for Cardinals-Giants from Rickwood Field in Birmingham last week, marking the best Fox MLB Thursday regular-season game since September 2022. Thursday night MLB games on Fox last season averaged 1.67 million.

CBS drew 2.66 million viewers for the final round of the PGA Tour Travelers Championship on Sunday (a window that ran from 2-5pm ET). Scottie Scheffler’s win delivered a 7% uptick vs. the final round in 2023 (2.44 million).

ESPN drew the second-best F1 Spanish Grand Prix on record over the weekend, with another Max Verstappen win drawing 1.08 million viewers on Sunday morning. That’s up 4% from the race last year.

The chart below lists viewership figures for select recent sports telecasts.
