College Notes: Penn State's Kraft 'open' to Beaver Stadium naming rights

STATECOLLEGE.com’s Ben Jones noted Penn State AD Pat Kraft is “open to selling the naming rights to Beaver Stadium.” Kraft added that while he is “open to the idea” of selling on-field advertising space, as things stand in late June, fans “won’t see advertisements in any of three NCAA-allowed locations this upcoming season.” Kraft: “As I sit here on June 24, you won’t see any of that this year, but I’m not going to take it off the table. I don’t think anybody can take anything like that off the table in the world we’re living in.” Jones noted Kraft’s stance on Beaver Stadium naming rights is a “continuation of the one shared by his predecessor, Sandy Barbour” (STATECOLLEGE.com, 6/24).

HOME IMPROVEMENT: In Indianapolis, Kyle Smedley reports Indiana Univ. Indianapolis' new $110M 134,000 square-foot facility will not only host home games for IU Indianapolis men's and women's basketball as well as volleyball, but it will also “serve as home for the athletic department as a whole and the USA Track and Field national headquarters.” Before construction of the new facility can begin, the proposal “must pass” through the Indiana Department of Higher Education and the state budget agency. IU Indianapolis AD Luke Bosso said that this process “should finish within the next two to three months,” with groundbreaking “scheduled for late summer/early fall, and a target completion date of fall 2026.” The facility's estimated capacity of approximately 4,500 fans “provides IU Indianapolis athletes a chance to showcase their talents to a much larger audience than The Jungle's 1,215-person capacity” (INDIANAPOLIS STAR, 6/25).
