Bay FC GM Lucy Rushton resigns halfway through team's inaugural season

NWSL club Bay FC GM Lucy Rushton "announced her resignation" yesterday, just halfway through the team’s inaugural season, according to Marisa Ingemi of the S.F. CHRONICLE. Rushton did not give a reason for her departure, but her statement "noted a 'next chapter' which could indicate she got another role." Assistant GM Matt Potter “will take over as interim GM.” Potter previously was the coach of the K.C. Current and has been an assistant with the USWNT. Rushton has previously worked in the Premier League and MLS, where she was the first female GM in MLS history with D.C. United. She "oversaw a massive effort to bring international players to Bay FC," including a world-record transfer of Zambian F Racheal Kundananji. She also hired Bay FC coach Albertin Montoya to his first full-time NWSL coaching role after he was "initially a consultant in the search." She “built a robust scouting and analytics team” led by team Dir of Scouting & Strategy Austin Buchanan. Rushton’s departure is the “first personnel change in club history” (S.F. CHRONICLE, 6/24).
