Gene Haas announced on Thursday his intention to continue as a team owner in NASCAR following the planned shuttering of Stewart-Haas Racing after this season, according to Nick DeGroot of MOTORSPORT. DeGroot noted that Haas will launch the “Haas Factory Team” in 2025, “operating a two-car NASCAR Xfinity Series team and retaining a single Cup charter.” Front Row Motorsports has already announced their intention to purchase one of the other three charters “once a new Charter agreement is reached between the teams and the sanctioning body.” SHR President Joe Custer will “continue in that role” at the Haas Factory Team. The team will “operate out of the existing Stewart-Haas facility” in Kannapolis, N.C. (MOTORSPORT, 6/20). THE ATHLETIC’s Jordan Bianchi wrote that this is “not an unexpected move” as SHR had been “one of NASCAR’s top teams since its 2009 formation.” What becomes of SHR’s two other charters has not been publicly announced. Though sources say that Trackhouse Racing and 23XI Racing “are expected to each acquire one" (THE ATHLETIC, 6/20).
