Formula 1 Heineken Silver Las Vegas Grand Prix

The F1 Grand Prix in Las Vegas brought more than 300,000 visitors to the city over four nights and delivered a spectacle that had not been seen before with an under-the-lights race on the Strip. Overall, the event generated more than $880 million in spending around the race, and F1’s 2023 revenue rose by 25% on the heels of the event.

NASCAR Chicago Street Race

NASCAR took to the streets of Chicago for a high profile, first-of-its-kind event for the stock car series. NASCAR spent $50 million to set up the street circuit, and the event drew 50,000 people. NBC’s viewership also was at a six-year high for its NASCAR coverage, as the network drew nearly 4.8 million viewers.

NHL Stadium Series

Contesting a pair of games at a single venue for the first time, the Stadium Series at MetLife Stadium posted its best television audience in four years with nearly 1.6 million viewers, helped by the second matchup between the Rangers and Islanders. Delaware North set a Stadium Series record for gross sales across the two nights. The event also broke merchandise sales records for back-to-back nights.

Super Bowl LVIII

The NFL went from avoiding sports betting to hosting its biggest event in the sports betting capital of the world. The event went off without a noticeable hitch and established new highs for TV ratings, total betting handle and secondary-market ticket pricing. Legends also set a record for licensed retail merchandise sales. Commissioner Roger Goodell said the league looked forward to returning to Las Vegas.

U.S. Open Tennis Championships

The U.S. Open set records for attendance in 2023 as nearly 960,000 fans crossed the gates of Flushing Meadows, an increase of almost 8% over 2022. The first week alone had over half a million fans. The tournament featured star winners in both Coco Gauff and Novak Djokovic.

World Baseball Classic

The World Baseball Classic finished with revenue between $90 million and $100 million, and attendance of more than 1.3 million was a 20% gain over the tournament’s previous high in 2017. The final drew 5.2 million viewers, a 69% increase from the final in 2017. Japan’s win made big waves on TV there, with its quarterfinal victory over Italy drawing around 38 million viewers to TV Asahi.
