Mystery as 2,000 dead penguins wash up on the beach in Uruguay

Under-fed birds died in the Atlantic Ocean and were carried by currents to shore

Around 2,000 dead penguins have washed up on the coast of eastern Uruguay in the last 10 days, perplexing local officials.

They are all magellanic penguins, known for their black bodies and white bellies. Most of the dead birds were considered juveniles.
