The most powerful earthquake in 120 years to hit Morocco struck last Friday night, causing widespread destruction, pain and devastation to countless people. In the same week, catastrophic floods in Libya washed away entire neighbourhoods, leaving thousands dead.

The scale of these disasters is incomprehensible. It is shocking to see these crises unfold, but these emergencies are becoming sadly more common.
