Ireland international Alan Browne could be on his way to Turkey as he has been linked with a move to the ambitious newly-promoted side Göztepe.

Browne is definitely on the move as Preston confirmed last month that Browne had informed the club that he had rejected the offer of a new deal and wanted to move on.

He was immediately linked with a number of Preston’s Championship rivals but a report in Turkey today suggests that Göztepe have identified Browne as one of their main summer targets.

Managed by former Bulgaria boss Stanimir Stoilov, Göztepe – who are part of the same multi-club group as Southampton’s owners – have a squad made up mainly of Turkish players but they do have imports from Poland, Sweden, Nigeria and Senegal.

Turkish TV station VTR reported that Browne and former Aston Villa man Anwar El Ghazi have been listed as summer targets through their Southampton links, with Browne available on a free transfer as they prepare for top-flight football, having won promotion last term.

Browne is one of a group of current or recent Ireland internationals who are on the move as John Egan (Sheffield United), Aaron Connolly and Cyrus Christie (Hull City) and Jeff Hendrick (Newcastle) are all free agents.

He was strongly linked with a move to Italian side Salernitana in the January window but the clubs could not come to an agreement.

Meanwhile, the new boss at Norwich City says he will make his own assessment of Adam Idah before deciding on whether to sell the Ireland striker.

Idah had a successful spell on loan to Celtic last season and the Scottish champions are keen to bring him in on a permanent deal, though there seems to be a distance between what Celtic are willing to pay and Norwich’s valuation of the player.

“That's the ambition for now, because I think he's a good player with some good qualities and it could definitely be a striker for us,” Johannes Hoff Thorup said at a fans forum when asked about Idah’s future at Carrow Road.

“For all the players here, it will be unfair for me to say that, from day one, I will just go and say, ‘Okay, we need this and this and this’. No, I have to give them a chance. We have to see.

“Sometimes players can surprise from initially we have the thought, ‘Okay, they will maybe not be good enough’, but then you can see in training and some pre-season games that they can take the steps. So I think it's fair for me to give them the chance.”
