Your guide to the weekend’s League of Ireland action

League of Ireland preview - June 28th

Aidan Fitzmaurice and Seán O'Connor

Derry City v Drogheda United

(Brandywell, 7.45)

Team news: City have lost Cameron McJannet to England and Patrick McEleney remains absent. Hayden Cann and Oisín Gallagher have left Drogheda; Gary Deegan, Darragh Markey and Zishim Bawa are doubts.

Talking point: Drogheda can’t call on new signings until next week so they travel with a light squad and will find this one tough.

Referee: Rob Harvey

Odds: Derry 3/10, Drogheda 9/1, draw 15/4

Verdict: Home win

Dundalk v Waterford

(Oriel Park, 7.45)

Team news: Dundalk’s Koen Oostenbrink and Ross Munro may be fit but Jamie Gullan and Mayowa Animasahun are doubts. Waterford are missing Gbemi Arubi, Barry Baggley and Maleace Asamoah.

Talking point: The Blues trounced Dundalk in their last meeting but Jon Daly’s side have improved since then. Their remarkable recent home record – eight straight clean sheets at Oriel Park – can work its magic again and see them avoid defeat.

Referee: Paul Norton

Odds: Dundalk 6/5, Waterford 23/10, draw 21/10

Verdict: Draw

Shelbourne v Galway United

(Tolka Park, 7.45)

Team news: Shels lose Mark Coyle to suspension; new arrivals Ali Coote and Sam Bone are not yet available to play. Galway’s new man Bobby Burns is not yet eligible.

Talking point: Game on a knife edge as evident from a 1-0 win for each team in meetings to date this season. Shels’ forwards give them the advantage.

Referee: Rob Hennessy

Odds: Shels 23/20, Galway 13/5, draw 19/10

Verdict: Home win

Sligo Rovers v Shamrock Rovers

(Showgrounds 7.45)

Team news: Sligo have Nando Pijnaker and Simon Power fit again, Fabrice Hartmann plays the last game of his loan spell. The Hoops hope to recall Leon Pohls, Gary O’Neill, and Aaron McEneff, and Seán Hoare could return for them, but Lee Grace, Neil Farrugia, Darragh Burns, Dan Cleary, Seán Kavanagh and Rory Gaffney are absent

Talking point: Sligo have to go back to 2021 for their last win over the Hoops and have failed to score in their last three meetings. Squad issues may hamper the home side. Nervous draw on the cards.

Referee: Neil Doyle

Odds: Waterford 20/21, Sligo 14/5, Draw 11/5

Verdict: Draw

St Patrick’s Athletic v Bohemians

(Richmond Park, 7.45)

Team news: Pat’s recall Anto Breslin. Bohs assess Declan McDaid and Dylan Connolly but Brian McManus, James McManus, Rob Cornwall and Keith Buckley are out.

Talking point: A new-look Bohs can only hope for better in the second half of the season and before new faces arrive they’d settle for a point.

Referee: Paul McLaughlin

Odds: Pat’s 20/21, Bohs 14/5, draw 23/10

Verdict: Draw
