Craig Bellamy is set to be announced as the new manager of Wales, just two weeks after the announcement of Robert Page's departure.

The Welsh FA's decision to part ways with Page led to suggestions that it might complicate Ireland's protracted hunt for a senior men's team solution if they went looking in the same market.

But their search - led by Irish CEO Noel Mooney - has been wrapped up quickly after the well travelled ex-Premier League striker Bellamy (44) accepted a deal to take control.

The former Newcastle, Liverpool and Blackburn player will be taking his first managerial job having served as coach under Vincent Kompany at both Anderlecht and Burnley.

While the FAI hierarchy have naturally been focused on the details of the RTE/Sunday Independent investigation that emerged over the weekend, the length of time it has taken to identify Stephen Kenny's replacement was raised at Saturday's General Assembly.

After a question from the floor from a delegate on a process that has crossed the eight month mark, President Paul Cooke urged the room to 'trust' in the FAI hierarchy delivering a suitable candidate before September's UEFA Nations League kick-off.
