There’s something fitting about Stuttgart being the stage for a game which will determine if Germany’s class of 2024 are capable of leaving a tournament legacy.

The Neckarstadion, now styled as the MHP Arena, is a venue with a storied past. Through Irish eyes, it is the place where Ray Houghton put the ball in the English net on a glorious June day in 1988, five years before Sonia O’Sullivan was robbed of World Championships success by Chinese athletes who were never seen again.
