Aoife Wafer is only 21 but has waited for days like this. She walked out of the tunnel in Twickenham for the captain’s run yesterday with a broad smile as if a dream was synching with reality. Today will be Wafer’s first time playing against England in the Women’s Six Nations. It will be her first time playing at Twickenham. The big stage meets the big newcomer.

Not since Jacob Stockdale in 2018 has a young Irish player made such an impact on a Six Nations as Wafer is currently having on this championship. This week, she was voted player of the round for the second time in a row after her player-of the-match performance against Wales.
