Mona McSharry becomes second woman in history to break 56 seconds in 100m breaststroke at US event

The rich vein of form which Mona McSharry exhibited during the World Swimming championships in Doha continued Friday night in the US when became only the second woman in history to break 56 seconds in the 100m breaststroke in a medley relay.

Competing for Tennessee University – where she in on scholarship – in the South Eastern Conference (SEC) championships she posted a time of 55.95 in the second heat of the 400m medley final. She propelled Tennessee into a lead which they never relinquished.
