Olympics-bound sailor Eve McMahon has been crowned World Under-21 champion in the dinghy class for the second year in a row.

The Sutton sailor was a clear winner with a race to spare of the ILCA 6 class in Viana Do Castelo in Portugal.

She took the title 30 points ahead of her closest competitors, Evie Saunders of Australia and Ginevra Caracciolo Di Brienza from Italy.

In tough conditions with varying winds and strong tides McMahon dominated the event winning five of her races.

“Eve was consistently strong each day and performed to a good standard in varying aspects of her racing. This will be a strong takeaway for her as Paris 2024 now closes in,” coach Rory Fitzpatrick said.

This victory comes just eight months after she last won the U21 World Championships in Tangier, Morocco.

Eve, a member of Howth Yacht Club, will begin her Olympic campaign on August 1 in Marseille, sailing in the same ILCA 6 class.
