When a stadium containing almost 50,000 fans is as quiet as a funeral parlour, the temptation is even greater than usual to toll the bell for the death of Gaelic football.
But that same bell has been tolling on and off for the last 20 years. What we’ve been witnessing is not a slow death but a ghastly mutation, a transfiguration into the sort of zombie match we saw last Sunday between Derry and Kerry in Croke Park.
