Real Health Podcast: The power of our thoughts with the Wholefood Hero Edel Owens

The power of our thoughts with the Wholefood Hero Edel Owens

Karl Henry

What is a healthy diet? How do we begin to set goals? And why is our mindset so important?

This week on the Real Health podcast, I was joined by qualified nutritional health coach, Edel Owens AKA the Wholefood Hero.

I started by asking Edel about the power of our thoughts. She said, “I think number one is never underestimate the power of your thoughts. Your thoughts control absolutely everything you do.”

Edel told me about how she came to her current job. She was a schoolteacher for 15 years. At the age of 28, she and her boyfriend hiked Slieve Donard mountain in county Down and she says she simply couldn’t physically get to the top. She said this was a wakeup call and began to pursue a healthy lifestyle after this.

A central part of Edel’s coaching is goal setting. She explained her philosophy: “it's important to set a goal that challenges you, but one that doesn't scare you completely, this just creates a bit of fear and resistance.

Whereas if you look at myself as a personal example, I'm doing my first triathlon this year. You know, to me, I'm starting with the amateur (level) and then I go to sprint (advanced), you know, because to me, that's realistic.”
