It’s hardly shocking that our farmers are in a tizzy over the Nature Restoration Law (NRL) – finally pushed through after two years of convoluted negotiations and a lot of compromises. Imagine being a farmer, reading about how this grand plan will transform your land into a biodiversity utopia, all the while knowing you’re probably footing the bill.

But being in Kerry this week was a wake-up call. The contrast between the vibrant fields of my childhood and today’s muted landscape is heartbreaking.
