I wasn’t best pleased when a nice man in his 40s offered me his seat on the Dart. There is a first time for everything, I suppose, and he must have felt I needed it on that rarest of things this summer – a warm day.
I didn’t try hard enough to camouflage my displeasure either. A jokey thank-you was as much as I could manage, laced with enough ingratitude for the entire carriage to pick up on.
