One of the most poignant aspects of the death of 67-year-old Dr Michael Mosley – who died recently while out walking in 40-degree heat on the Greek island of Symi – was that the health initiatives he shared with us via books, newspapers, television, radio and podcasts had been largely motivated by the relatively early death of his own father Bill at 74.

“My dad, when he retired, basically sat on the sofa and watched sport and that was incredibly bad for him,” he said in a Daily Telegraph interview. “I thought, that's not a road I want to go down.”
