Aoife Carrigy's picks from Lidl's Italian Wine Cellar

Aoife Carrigy

This autumn, Lidl introduced two limited-edition wine cellars to their shelves, featuring some old favourites and new additions. The French Wine Cellar kicked off in mid-September and the Italian Wine Cellar this week, and stocks of each should last about six weeks.

From the French Cellar, I recommended the pocket-friendly Château Moulin de Taffard Médoc 2019 (€11.99) in last week’s round-up of autumnal wines, or for an extra €3, you could sample the nicely developed Château Fonpiqueyre Haut Médoc 2015 (€14.99). Of the whites, the Jean Cornelius Pinot Blanc from Alsace (€12.99) is a versatile food wine with quietly aromatic stone fruit, honey and spice notes, and a textural weight that pairs well with creamier dishes of white meat, poultry or river fish.
