Criminal barristers will today hold protests at 16 courthouses around the country over the non-restoration of pay cuts imposed upon them during the last financial crisis.

They say cuts ranging from 28.5pc to 60pc have been applied to barrister’s fees from 2008 to 2011, and as a result in October 2023, fees paid by the State to criminal barristers were more than 40pc below 2002 levels in real terms.
