The soldier who sparked public outcry after avoiding a prison term for an unprovoked assault on a young woman is to be dismissed from the Defence Forces this week.

Cathal Crotty (22) was last month given a fully suspended three-year prison term for the attack on Limerick woman Natasha O’Brien in 2022.
