Martine Brangan now realises she suffered symptoms of multiple sclerosis (MS) as early as in her 20s – but every time she raised concerns, doctors repeatedly dismissed or misdiagnosed the warning signs.

After spending many years left in a medical limbo, the retired librarian (63), from Milltown in Dublin, only received a diagnosis confirming she had the neurological condition last summer.
