A wildlife expert has warned Ireland is on the brink of a biodiversity tragedy, with dozens of species now threatened with extinction.

Fota Wildlife Park director Sean McKeown has stressed that education and behavioural change are the only things that could prevent an ­ecological crisis from turning into a disaster – but he fears it may already be too late for some species.
