One of the barriers preventing more tillage farmers converting to organic is a concern over weed burden, according to Robbie Byrne, who is in the process of converting some of the tillage block of his mixed farm in Louth.

“In my experience farmers considering organic tillage have a real fear of the potential weed burden, and addressing that would encourage more farmers into organic cereal production,” he says.
