You could sense a downbeat mood from tillage farmers at the end of 2023 but there are some positives to suggest that this year will be better.

Fertiliser costs are about half of what they were 12 months ago, and although cereal prices have slumped since the peak in May 2022, the overall global market looks reasonable, with many areas experiencing some degree of difficulty. Europe, for example, experienced a wet autumn and struggled to get crops into the ground.
