How a farm tour to Austria underlined the pros and cons of being an island nation

Climate change and potential EU expansion have a sharper edge on the continent

The number of trucks on the main road heading west out of Vienna made a striking first impression on a recent short farm tour to Austria.

Two of the three lanes in each direction were bumper to bumper, mostly with number plates from further east. International movements were not confined to trucks, and the contrast with our island situation was striking.
