Concerns over soil fertility are being raised by farmers and advisors alike as grass growth remains well behind this year.

New figures released by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) show greenhouse gas emissions from agriculture dropped by 4.6pc last year, primarily due to an 18pc reduction in the use of synthetic nitrogen fertiliser.
