Ireland could face a fine of €8bn if the target for the first carbon budget is not met, Marie Donnelly, Chair of the Climate Change Advisory Council has warned.

Speaking at a Teagasc beef open day in Grange, Co Meath, last week she said according to the most recent count – two years ago — Ireland is looking at a fine of €8bn. Going forward, it will be harder because we’re already behind and the objective will get even worse, she said and encouraged farmers to focus on three areas to be more sustainable.
