Joe Barry: Ash dieback scheme is as good as we could have expected

We have been a long time waiting for the ash dieback scheme. Why it took so long to produce is hard to understand, but those of us with diseased ash up and down the country are so relieved that at this stage, we would grasp almost anything to be able to replace so many dead and dying trees.

There are, as you’d expect, lots of critics of the sums on offer, but I think it is mostly as good as we could expect and gives a sound base to start work on removing and replanting.
