Gathering up the free-range hens was becoming more of a pantomime with every passing week. Shutting in the hens before the farm shop closes every evening by 6pm was easy-peasy during the winter when darkness was always closing in.

But as the days stretched, the hens became more adamant about their free-ranger status, and started to give us the run around the paddock every evening.
