“All we’re getting in the media,” notes a character in The Dry (RTÉ One, Wednesday, 9.35pm) “is true crime documentaries, detective dramas, and dead women, dead women, dead women.”

He’s not wrong. All four nominees in the drama category at the British Academy Television Awards last weekend were grim, gritty sagas involving wrong ’uns of one sort or another. Prime time and misery go together like the new Taoiseach and schmoozing.
