The lead cast has been announced for Derry Girls creator Lisa McGee's new Netflix series - How to Get to Heaven from Belfast.

The upcoming show includes The Dry's Roísín Gallagher, Sinéad Keenan from Little Boy Blue and Caoilfhionn Dunne of A Thousand Blows.

How to Get to Heaven from Belfast tells the story of three childhood friends who are now in their late 30s - clever, chaotic TV writer Saoirse (Gallagher), glamorous, stressed-out mother of three Robyn (Keenan), and dependable, inhibited carer Dara (Dunne), who have been a tight-knit group since school.

When an email arrives telling them about the death of the estranged fourth member of their childhood friend group, Greta, a series of eerie events at her wake set them on a dark, dangerous and hilarious odyssey through Ireland and beyond as they try to piece together the truth of the past.

The creator, writer and executive producer of the new show is Lisa McGee, who created the iconic Derry Girls. It is also produced by Caroline Leddy, Michael Lennox, Liz Lewin and Jimmy Mulville.

Production has already begun in Northern Ireland on the new comedy thriller series as Derry native Lisa McGee has said she "couldn't be more excited to start production" on the Belfast-based show.

"I’ve loved writing Saoirse, Robyn and Dara – three flawed, funny women who are about to embark on the most thrilling and terrifying adventure of their lives.

"A mystery full of twists and turns that will keep you guessing and make you laugh out loud. Let’s go girls!” McGee added.
